INTRODUCTION
In line with mission of the Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi (FUAMB) to provide quality education and produce graduates equipped for natural development, there is an urgent need to establish a Career Development Center (CDC). The center will serve as a bridge between academic training and world of work, empowering students and alumni with the necessary tools knowledge and guidance for successful career paths. In today’s rapidly evolving job market, the need for student to be well-prepared for their professional journeys is greater than ever. A strong and comprehensive career development and employability service programme is essential given the transformative potential of education and its critical role in determining the future of individuals and communities. This is result of a fundamental commitment to improving the entire educational process, supporting the holistic development of student, and bridging the knowledge gap with fulfilling work in the rapid highly competitive global economy. Given the dynamic nature of career paths and the ever-changing demands of the job market, Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi (FUAMB) cannot afford to neglect the responsibility to provide its student with the information and resource necessary for successful career navigation. The establishment of the career development center of the Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi (FUAMB) was premised on the recommendation and directives of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund [TETFund]. The establishment of the career center aimed to provide solutions to the high rate of unemployment in Nigeria. The center is directly under the office of the Vice Chancellor.
Mission
Vision
The mission of the career development center is two-fold; career conversation and career connection. Career conversation is concerned with talking to or counselling the students about career options, motivating them to achieve career goals and providing general guidance. Career connection relates to providing opportunities to students to have employer engagement and network with alumni.
Career development center is focused to inspire and empower students to discover and pursue a path to a fulfilling career toward global relevance for enhanced employability and productivity.
Main Functions
- To educate and mentor student in acquiring information, knowledge and competencies that enhance their individual career development, academic success and employability.
- To provide students with career coaching through orientation, training, workshop and seminars on resume/cover letter writing, interviews skills, job searching strategies etc.
- To create a robust plat forms and network for alumni engagement.
- To facilitate connection for career connections with industries and organization both government and non-Govemental.
- To establish connections with companies to access the potential for student’s internship and professional prospects.
- To provide personalized career guidance and counseling to help student identify their strength, interests and career goals.
- To organize workshops, seminars, and order related training programmes for staff, students and order stakeholders.
