History

The Department of Forestry and Wildlife Management is one of the pioneering academic departments of the Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi (FUAMB), established to support the University’s mandate of advancing agricultural education, environmental sustainability, and natural resource conservation in Nigeria.

The Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi, located in Adamawa State, was officially approved for establishment by President Muhammadu Buhari on 28th May 2023, following the successful passage of the bill establishing the University by the National Assembly. The creation of the University marked a significant milestone in expanding access to specialized agricultural and environmental education in Nigeria.

In line with the University’s vision of promoting sustainable agricultural development and environmental stewardship, the Department of Forestry and Wildlife Management was established to train highly skilled professionals capable of addressing contemporary challenges in forest conservation, biodiversity protection, ecosystem management, and wildlife preservation. Since its inception, the Department has remained committed to producing graduates equipped with the knowledge, practical skills, and innovative capacity required for sustainable management of forest and wildlife resources.

Overview

The Department of Forestry and Wildlife Management serves as a hub for exploring, conserving, and managing Nigeria’s rich forest resources and diverse wildlife ecosystems. The Department offers a comprehensive academic program that combines scientific knowledge, practical field experience, research, and innovation to prepare students for careers in forestry, wildlife conservation, environmental management, ecotourism, and natural resource administration.

The Department is dedicated to equipping students with the theoretical and practical competencies necessary for sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, and responsible wildlife stewardship. Through quality teaching, inclusive research, community engagement, and conservation initiatives, the Department contributes to environmental protection, climate resilience, and sustainable development at local, national, and global levels.

Students are exposed to modern approaches in forest resource management, wildlife ecology, environmental impact assessment, conservation biology, agroforestry, forest economics, and natural resource policy, enabling them to become effective professionals and leaders in the environmental sector.

Mission

To provide quality education, innovative research, and practical training in forestry and wildlife management that equips students with the knowledge, skills, and ethical values necessary for sustainable forest conservation, biodiversity protection, responsible wildlife stewardship, and environmental sustainability for the benefit of present and future generations.

Vision

To be a leading centre of excellence in forestry and wildlife education, research, and conservation, recognized for producing competent professionals, advancing sustainable natural resource management, promoting biodiversity conservation, and contributing to environmental protection and sustainable development in Nigeria and beyond.

Admission Requirement
  • A minimum of five (5) credit passes in SSCE, NECO, GCE, or NABTEB (in not more than two sittings). The required subjects must include: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Agricultural Science.
  • Obtain a minimum JAMB (UTME) score of 150 or above.
  • Participate in and satisfy the University’s post-UTME/Screening Exercise.
Direct Entry Requirements
  • Meet the minimum O’Level requirements.
  • A National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), or NCE in Forestry or a related discipline.
