Prof. Jesse Silas Mshelia

Professor Jesse Silas Mshelia is a distinguished Nigerian academic and Professor of Agronomy recognized for his humility, dedication, and outstanding contributions to agricultural education and research. He was born on 11 April 1965 in Yimirshika, Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State. He attended Yimirshika Primary School, Barewa College, Zaria, and Borno State College of Basic Studies before earning a B.Agric. in Crop Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1989. Following his National Youth Service at ABU Zaria, he pursued further studies, obtaining a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the University of Maiduguri, an M.Sc. in Agronomy from Ahmadu Bello University, and a Ph.D. in Agronomy from Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola. He also completed several professional certificate courses to enhance his expertise. His academic career began as a Research Assistant at ABU Zaria before joining Borno State College of Education, Science and Technology, Bama, where he rose to the rank of Chief Lecturer. In 2013, he joined the Federal University of Kashere as Lecturer I and later served in several leadership positions, including Acting Head of Department, Head of Department, Faculty Examination Officer, and Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture. In 2025, he joined the Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi, where he currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and contributes to several Senate and Management Committees. His research interests include farming systems, plant nutrition, crop physiology, underutilized crops, and food and nutritional security. He is happily married and blessed with children.
