Department of Agriculture

History

The Department of Agriculture was established as one of the pioneer academic units of the Faculty of Agriculture at the Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi (FUAMB). The Department was founded to support the University’s mandate of advancing agricultural education, research, innovation, and community service in response to Nigeria’s growing need for food security, sustainable agricultural development, and economic diversification.

Since its inception, the Department has been committed to producing competent graduates equipped with modern agricultural knowledge, practical skills, and leadership qualities necessary to address contemporary agricultural challenges. Through continuous curriculum development, research activities, and stakeholder engagement, the Department has contributed significantly to agricultural advancement and rural development within Nigeria and beyond.

The Department of Agriculture is dedicated to training young visionary leaders in the agricultural sector who are committed to sustainable agricultural growth, food production, environmental stewardship, and national development. The Department provides a comprehensive education that integrates theoretical knowledge, practical field experience, research, and innovation across various agricultural disciplines.

Students are equipped with the skills and competencies required for careers in crop production, animal production, agricultural extension, agribusiness, agricultural technology, food systems management, and sustainable resource utilization. The Department emphasizes excellence, integrity, innovation, and entrepreneurship in preparing graduates to meet global agricultural demands and contribute meaningfully to food and nutritional security.

Admission Requirement
  • A minimum of five (5) credit passes in SSCE, NECO, GCE, or NABTEB (in not more than two sittings). The required subjects must include: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Agricultural Science.
  • Obtain a minimum JAMB (UTME) score of 150 or above.
  • Participate in and satisfy the University’s post-UTME/Screening Exercise.
Direct Entry Requirements
  • Meet the minimum O’Level requirements.
  • A National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), or NCE in Agriculture or a related discipline.
