Department of Agricultural Economics & Extension
History
The Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension is one of the pioneering academic departments within the Faculty of Agriculture at the Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi (FUAMB), Adamawa State. The Department was established following the creation of the University, which was approved by former President Muhammadu Buhari on 28th May 2023 after the successful passage of the bill establishing the University by the National Assembly.
The Department was founded to address the growing need for professionals equipped with expertise in agricultural economics, agribusiness management, agricultural policy, rural development, and extension services. Since its establishment, the Department has been committed to advancing agricultural productivity, sustainability, and profitability through quality teaching, research, innovation, and community engagement. It serves as a bridge between agricultural research institutions, farmers, agribusiness enterprises, policymakers, and rural communities, contributing to agricultural transformation in Adamawa State, Nigeria, and beyond.
Overview
Agricultural Economics and Extension is a multidisciplinary field that combines economics, agriculture, communication, education, and rural development to improve agricultural productivity, food security, and the socio-economic well-being of farmers and rural communities.
The discipline focuses on understanding how agricultural resources such as land, labour, capital, and technology can be efficiently utilized while ensuring that agricultural innovations and research findings are effectively transferred to farmers and other stakeholders.
Agricultural Economics and Extension serves as a bridge between agricultural research institutions, government agencies, farmers, agribusiness organizations, and consumers. It plays a significant role in promoting sustainable agricultural development and improving living standards, especially in rural areas.

To provide quality education, research, and extension services in agricultural economics, agribusiness, rural development, and agricultural extension, producing competent professionals capable of enhancing agricultural productivity, sustainability, profitability, and food security through innovation, community engagement, and evidence-based decision-making.
