Prof. Jesse Silas Mshelia

Professor Jesse Silas Mshelia is a man of humble and simple character who gets on well with staff  students and people generally.
Born on 11th April, 1965 at Yimirshika in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State. Prof. J. S. Mshelia started his early  education at Yimirshika Primary School in 1973 from where he proceeded to the Famous Barewa College Zaria for his Secondary Education and obtained the West African Examination General Certificate in Education in 1983, he then went to Borno State College of Basic Studies Maiduguri for his ‘A’ levels from 1983 – 1985. He proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University Zaria where he studied agriculture and graduated in 1989 with B. Agriculture (Crop Science). He had his mandatory service at the Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Institute of Agriculture/ Ahmadu Bello University Zaria 1989/1990.
His quest for education spur him to further his studies which made him to obtain Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Maiduguri in 2000, M. Sc. Agronomy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 2002 and Ph. D in Agronomy, Modibbo Adama University of Technolgy, Yola 2012. He also went through short time certificate courses at various times.
Prof. J. S. Mshelia started his working career as a Research Assistant with the Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Institute of Agriculture/ Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1989 during the mandatory service year (NYSC). He joined the services of Borno State College of Education Science and Technology Bama as an Assistant Lecturer in 1993 where he rose to the rank to Chief Lecturer before transfering his services to Federal University of Kashere as Lecturer I in 2013. In 2025 he joined the services of the Federal University of Agriculture Mubi Adamawa State.
Prof. J. S. Mshelia has held several responsibilities at the College of Education Bama, Federal University of Kashere and Federal University of Agriculture Mubi. He was Examination Officer, School of Vocational Education, College of Education Science and Technology, Bama 2002 – 2006, Pioneer Head of Agricultural Education Degree Program, College of Education, Science and Technology, Bama 2009- 2012. At Federal University of Kashere, he was the Pioneer Acting Head of the Department of Agronomy 2013- 2014, Departmental Examination Officer, Department of Agronomy 2014 – 2015, Faculty Examination Officer, Faculty of Agriculture 2015 – 2020, Head of Department of Agronomy 2021 – 2023 and Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Federal University of Kashere currently the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Federal University of Agriculture Mubi, Member of several Senate and University Management Committees of the Federal University of Agriculture Mubi.
Research interests include:-  Farming Systems, Plant Nutrition, Agronomy and improvements of Underutilised Crops, Food and Nutritional Security as well as  Crop Phsiology.
He is happily married with children.
