History
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics was established to provide students with a strong foundation in mathematical reasoning, statistical analysis, and quantitative problem-solving.
Mathematics is one of the oldest academic disciplines and serves as the foundation of science, technology, engineering, economics, and modern innovations, while Statistics emerged as a scientific method for collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data for effective decision-making.
The department is created to support agricultural research, technological advancement, environmental studies, and data-driven decision-making. It provides essential quantitative tools needed to solve challenges related to food production, climate change, resource management, and sustainable development.
The department also promotes interdisciplinary research by supporting other departments with mathematical modelling, statistical analysis, and scientific data interpretation.

Admission Requirement
- A minimum of five (5) credit passes in SSCE, NECO, GCE, or NABTEB (in not more than two sittings). The required subjects must include: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one other science subject.
- Obtain a minimum JAMB (UTME) score of 150 or above.
- Participate in and satisfy the University’s post-UTME/Screening Exercise.
Direct Entry Requirements
- Meet the minimum O’Level requirements.
- A National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), or NCE in Mathematics and Statistics or a related discipline.
