DIRECTOR OF ENTREPRENEURE
BRIEF INTRODUCTION
The Directorate of Entrepreneurship, Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi (FUAMB), is a strategic university unit established to translate the institution’s strong foundation in agricultural and applied sciences into practical, income-generating ventures for students, staff, and the wider community. Situated within a University whose academic strength spans fisheries, aquaculture, crop and animal production, and allied disciplines, the Directorate exists to ensure that knowledge generated in lecture halls, laboratories, and research fields does not remain purely theoretical, but is deliberately shaped into skills, enterprises, and livelihoods.
The Directorate coordinates entrepreneurship education, skills acquisition training, business incubation support, and linkages with government agencies, development partners, and the private sector. It works closely with academic departments — including the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture and other units in the Faculty of Agriculture — to identify commercially viable outputs of research (such as fish farming technologies, value-added agricultural products, and post-harvest innovations) and to guide staff and students in converting these into sustainable enterprises.
In line with national policy directions such as the Entrepreneurship Development Programme mandated for Nigerian tertiary institutions, the Directorate serves as FUAMB’s institutional vehicle for equipping graduates with the practical competencies needed to create jobs rather than simply seek them, thereby contributing to youth empowerment and economic development in Adamawa State and the wider Northeast Nigeria region.

To provide practical entrepreneurship education, hands-on skills training, and business development support that empower FUAMB students, staff, and surrounding communities to establish and sustain viable enterprises anchored on agriculture, fisheries, and allied value chains — thereby reducing unemployment, promoting innovation, and strengthening the University’s contribution to national development.
MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE DIRECTORATE
The Directorate of Entrepreneurship is charged with the following core functions:
- Coordinate the compulsory Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) for undergraduate students across all levels, in line with national university curriculum guidelines.
- Design and deliver practical skills acquisition training in areas such as fish farming and aquaculture technology, agro-processing, poultry and livestock production, ICT and digital enterprise, agricultural value-addition, and other trades relevant to the University’s environment.
- Facilitate business incubation and mentorship for student and staff-led start-ups, including access to workspace, basic tools, and technical guidance.
- Bridge research and enterprise by working with academic departments to identify commercially viable research outputs and support their translation into marketable products and services.
- Organize entrepreneurship seminars, workshops, exhibitions, and trade fairs to showcase student and staff innovations and connect them with potential investors and buyers.
- Build partnerships and linkages with government agencies (such as SMEDAN, NDE, and the Bank of Agriculture), development partners, and private sector organizations for funding, technical support, and market access.
- Support access to start-up capital and grants by guiding beneficiaries through proposal writing, business plan development, and applications to relevant funding schemes.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of supported enterprises to track impact, sustainability, and job/wealth creation outcomes.
- Promote a culture of innovation and self-reliance within the University community, encouraging the transition of graduates from job-seekers to job-creators.
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE OF THE DIRECTORATE
The Directorate operates under the overall supervision of the Vice-Chancellor and is headed by a Director of Entrepreneurship, who reports administratively to the Vice-Chancellor (often through the office of a designated Deputy Vice-Chancellor) and works collaboratively with Deans of Faculties, Heads of Department, and relevant University committees.
